2006 All-Western North Carolina Girls Tennis Team announced

COACH OF THE YEAR Carol Clark Roberson In her 17th season at Roberson, Clark led a team of three freshmen and three sophomores to the third round of the NCHSAA 3-A dual team playoffs after the Rams (16-4) split the Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship with Asheville High. Five of Clark’s players were named to the All-MAC team. Her career record at Roberson is 242-78 (.775).
PLAYER OF THE YEAR Britney Cloer West Henderson Senior Cloer became just the fourth girl in North Carolina history to win four state singles championships when she beat Ruhsona Usmanova from Durham School of the Arts, 6-2, 6-1, in the NCHSAA 2-A final on Oct. 28. For the second straight year, Cloer was the only NCHSAA state champion from Western North Carolina. She went 12-1 in singles, with her only loss coming from an injury default.
Amie Cloer West Henderson Freshman Cloer won the Western Athletic Conference tournament in singles, compiled a 17-3 record and reached the NCHSAA 2-A tournament’s semifinals, where she lost to state runner-up Ruhsona Usmanova from Durham School of the Arts.
Caitlin Doucette Reynolds Sophomore Doucette earned All-Northwestern Conference honors after going 11-4 in singles and 11-4 in doubles for the Rockets. Doucette forced a third-set tiebreaker against the Northwestern’s player of the year, Watauga’s Brianna Fleming, before losing 6-2, 3-6 (10-3) on Sept. 26.
Christiane Pheil Asheville Senior Pheil was named the Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year and led Asheville High to the 3-A quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive season. Pheil won 64 of her 65 singles matches in four years and was 40-3 in doubles. She was signed to play college tennis at Colorado.
MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell Roberson Freshman Stauffer-MacDowell earned All-Mountain Athletic Conference honors after going 10-5 in singles (her only MAC losses were to player of the year Christiane Pheil from Asheville High). She also teamed with sophomore Erin Williams to capture the 3-A Western Regional doubles championship. Stauffer-MacDowell and Williams went 15-3 together. Stauffer-MacDowell shared the Rams’ most valuable player award with Williams.
Erin Williams Roberson Sophomore Williams earned All-Mountain Athletic Conference honors after going 13-2 in singles. She teamed with freshman MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell to go 15-3 in doubles and win the 3-A Western Regional championship. Williams shared the Rams’ most valuable player award with Stauffer-MacDowell.
