Panthers rebound
with solid win over Robbinsville (8/31/07)
What a difference a
week makes in High School football. In his Friday
morning coaches show, Franklin High head coach Josh Brooks
was certain that his team had the best week of practice of
any team in his time at FHS and it showed Friday
night. The Franklin Panthers came out mentally focused
and physically dominated a very good Robbinsville Football
team. Franklin was able to limit the Black Knights
potent rushing game to 213-yards on 38 attempts.
Robbinsville's speedy running back duo of Blake Anderson and
Kurt Odom were held in check most of the night with the
exception of the two plays that led to scores. Odom
busted off tackle on the Knights second offensive play for a
78-yard score and later caught a 32-yard halfback pass from
Anderson for a score.
Sensing that the Black Knights
could pose a threat to the run attack, Franklin broke out
the passing attack in a big way. QB Christian Vose
looked much like the Vose of late last season connecting on
8 of 15 for 102-yards and a Touchdown. Cody Herman
caught a 35-yard touchdown from Vose just as the first half
was ending. Jason Erxleben caught the majority of
Vose's passes and had a huge night as the Panthers main
reciever. Vose also scored on a 1-yard plunge in the
first quarter. The Panther's got another great game
from the State leading rusher in Josh Young as he ran 35
times for 141-yards and a touchdown. Vince Collins was
able to bust loose for a 63-yard score and Collins also
played very good in his first defensive action. Andrew
Raby continues to shine as the Panthers place kicker as he
connected on a 37-yard field goal and was perfect in 4 PAT
kicks. The whole Panther Defense played a super game
as they were able to slow down the Knights rushing
attack.
Franklin has another SMC team
next week as they host Swain in the Panther Pit. Swain
has struggled offensively so far this season, but are very
strong defensively.
