Young adds name to football record book (8/22/07)

To say Franklin High senior RB Josh Young waited patiently for his turn as the starting tailback in the Panthers offense would be an understatement.  As the lead blocker at fullback for Alex Croteau (2005) and last year’s combination of Chris Lequire and Robert Browning, Young and his fellow Franklin offensive lineman paved the way for over 3,085 yards rushing and 52 touchdowns as the Panthers won 22 of 26 contests.

One game into his senior season and first as the starting tailback, Young showcased his running talents and endurance during a season-opening home victory over Hayesville this past Friday night (August 17th, 2007), 35-16.  With offensive linemen Ross Spence, Parker Mathis, Chris Bell, Michael Carpenter, Justin Smith, tight end Robert Mullins, and full back Tyler Watson leading the way, Young rushed for 313 yards (second highest in school history) on 37 carries (new school record) and four touchdowns (tied for second).  Young’s performance pushed his career total to 992, just eight yards shy of becoming the school’s 17th player (unofficial) to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark.

Franklin continues their season this Friday at home against Murphy.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
