Franklin piled up 451 yards of total offense in a season
opening 35-16 win in an endowment game against the
Hayesville Yellow Jackets in the Panther Pit. Franklin
running back Josh Young had an impressive showing in his
first game as the Panthers starting running back as he
rolled up 313 yards on 37 carries and scored four
touchdowns. Franklin running back Vince Collins ripped
off an impressive Touchdown run as he added 71 yards on 5
carries in relief of Young. Franklin could not get the
passing attack on track as Christian Vose threw for just 47
yards as he completed just 3 passes in 8 attempts with two
interceptions. Jason Erxleben was the main target for
Vose as he caught 3 passes for 47 yards.
The Panther
defense limited the Jackets to just 29 yards rushing, but
allowed Hayesville's QB Jonathan Shively to complete 11
passes on 30 attempts for 157-yards and two
touchdowns.
Although the line score
shows that the Franklin Panthers had a 19 point win over the
visiting Yellow Jackets, the game was much closer.
With the Panthers leading the game 21-16 in the 4th quarter,
Hayesville QB Jonathan Shively was moving the Jackets down
field when Jake Stamey stepped in and intercepted a pass to
stop the drive and take away any Hayesville momentum.
Franklin was able to add two more scores and put the game
out of reach. Franklin hosts Murphy next Friday night
in the Panther Pit.
